Description
FeaturesCabot® Solid Color Decking Stains are extremely durable exterior stains for use on all wood decking, outdoor furniture and fencing, as well as cement patios and walkways. Series #1800, 100% acrylic finish is also water repellent and fade resistant. Oil Series #1600 and #7600 contain all-natural pigment with 100% alkyd resin. Solid Color Stains provide excellent adhesion to new, previously stained or painted surfaces, which are in a clean, sound condition.
Coverage
Approximately 150-250 square feet per gallon for Acylic Series #1800. Oil Series #1600 and #7600 cover 400-500 sq. ft. per gallon on smooth surfaces; 250-350 sq. ft. per gallon on rough surfaces. These rates will vary depending upon the porosity and type of surface. Spread rates will increase when applying a second coat.
Where to Use
Solid Color Decking Stains are ideal for use on most types of lumber including redwood, cypress, pine and fir, as well as pressure-treated wood. Oil decking stains #1600 and #7600 are also excellent for mahogany, cambara, meranti, and other exotic wood species.
Preparing Your Surfaces
Proper surface preparation is the key to maximum product performance. The durability of this product can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface. It is very important that the surface be clean of all dirt and sufficiently dry. (Moisture content must be below 15%, or wood must be exposed to dry weather a minimum of 3 to 5 days.) Previously painted, stained or weathered wood surfaces should be scrubbed with Cabot Problem-Solver® Wood Cleaner and a stiff bristle brush. Cabot Problem-Solver Wood Brightener can be used to easily remove nail and metal rust stains, stains caused by extractive bleeding, and renew the wood's appearance. Use Cabot Problem-Solver Strippers (8004, 8005) to safely remove all stains and paints from wood surfaces in order to prevent product failure and to create a sound surface for maximum adhesion. Power washing has proven to be effective in removing the surface layer of all loose wood fibers, dirt, chalky residue, flaking paint and stain and other foreign matter.
Application
Stir thoroughly before and occasionally while using. If the job requires more than one batch, blend them together. Apply evenly with a brush to small sections. Best results can be obtained by using a high-quality natural bristle brush for oil stains and high quality polyester brush for acrylic stains.
Spray Application
Acrylic #1800: Recommended tip sizes and adjustments for spray application are 0.021"-0.023" at 2-3000 PSI with a fan width of 5-8 inches; one gun. Oil #1600 and #7600: Recommended 0.017"-0.021" at 1800-2000 PSI with a fan width of 5-8 inches. When using HVLP spray equipment, see manual for proper set-up instructions.
